It’s the new year’s. It’s the time when everyone vows to change, turn over a new leaf and make their new year’s resolutions. Well this year it’s time to take flight. Most of us know we don’t belong where we currently are. We know we don’t belong with some of the people were around right now. We have no business doing what we’re doing right now. How long is it going to take to make that decision, to make that shift and show some courage, show some character. See the thing is; character is the ability to carry out a resolution long after the excitement of the moment has passed. Everyone says they want to do something. I want to go out discover myself, venture the world, learn about my true being. But most of us would do it for a few weeks and that's it. The excitement of the moment is gone, so we quit. "I want to take up gardening" so for a few weeks I start preparing the soil, I buy the seeds, I water them every day. Start seeing the seedlings grow. And then. Then we get engulfed in our lives, work, school and other things take priority. So, the seedlings leaves start to brown with the lack of water, and eventually wither and die.
That's how we treat our goals and dreams. Like that tomato plant that has the ambition to grow tall and give fruit but due to lack of commitment it ends up dying. Our goals seem to be only meant for those first few weeks of January and then we'll forget about them and leave them up for the next year. Like last year, and the year before that. You say you want to lose weight, get your business off the ground, be closer to God, and then turn around and party, drink alcohol, eat like crap and continue to live below who you were created to be. See the biggest failure in life is to miss your mark, to not be who you were created to be. When I was younger I was told this story originating from ancient Greece. It’s the story of Icarus, a boy who lived on a Greek island. He had a set of wings made from wax, and his father had warned him not to fly too high because the sun would melt his wings. But due to his arrogance he had flown high, the sun melted his wings and he plummeted to his death. But see this is not to full story. There was more his father also told him not to fly too low, close to the sea, because his wings will become heavy from the water spraying from the waves and the weight will make him fall. See we all know not to be too arrogant and aim to high because the drop is higher. I’ve been told don’t aim to high because you will miss. But what we all don’t realize is that we also can’t be too humble. Too weak, too timid, to shy, too safe. "The greatest tragedy is not to aim to high and miss, but to aim too low and hit". In this new year let's step out of our comfort zone, because good fortune favors the bold and our reward is not found in our comfort zone. You cannot see it when undertaking your daily routine, but your reward is found hidden deep in the cave that you fear. It is the cave that you fear that holds the treasure that you desire. Forget a new year’s resolution, that is not what you should be aiming for. You need to be aiming for a new life resolution, to be fully and authentically you. |
